A winter walk on Dartmoor - what blissful peace! There weren't many people on the moor where I walked. In fact I met one man, walking alone and we both agreed how lovely it was to be out there in the peace and tranquility of the moor. Only the sound of occasional brooks and the odd small plane flying overhead.
A few obstacles on the walk - the fast flowing Dart prevented a couple of stepping stone crossings. The first had river flowing over the stones, the second stones were wet and not a good idea to risk slipping in the river or banging my head, walking alone that would be it!

This walk started at Dartmeet and, via Hexworthy, took me onto the moor for clear views and feelings of space and freedom. There was a path, but not as big as it showed on the map! There were ground features, just as on the map, but no clear paths. So today involved leaping from grass tuft to grass tuft, in the hope that it did not result in splish splosh in hidden bog! The snow covered the ground enough to hide some wet patches but, after some testing of the terrain, there were no accidents or wet feet. Again, the views were spectacular but not as good as the feeling of space and freedom.
A handy cross to sit on for a lunch stop. As I ate my roll in solo tranquility, I felt complete. I could see people scrambling over the terrain opposite but far away. I wonder why there was a cross just there - was it a burial place or a signpost for ancient travelers?
As usual, the walk was varied - some narrow paths, river views, farmyard scenes (I prefer bullocks behind bars!). Overall "a grand day out!"
