After a month off the moor, I finally got back today and look at the view! This is why I walk! Just love the feeling of freedom, time to feel nature and clear your mind. I started off in rain so, togged up with waterproofs, I ventured on and the rain stopped.
I started along the River Taw from Belstone, then climbed up to Oke Tor and over to Knack Mine (great name!). After a rainy lunch, I set off down the other side of the valley, only to find myself on a tarmac road! How annoying was that? Not the "moor experience" I was looking for. So I duly walked on the verge at the side of the "track" looking for the first opportunity to take off onto the "moor proper". A couple of "fords" along the way created an opportunity to leap over water and cover my boots with peat bog and whizz up to real moor tracks. I was having a great time! Using a 1:50,000 map for a change was a challenge as it doesn't show as much as the 1:25,000 but that added to the experience.
Strolling back through Belstone back to the car, I contemplated a cup of tea. However, tea from a flask is not the same (pretty disgusting actually!) so I dashed home and had a cuppa there! Another satisfying few hours on the moor followed by a yoga class to maintain the old flexibility! A good day.
