So what do you do when you are walking along quite happily following your map and the footpath disappears? This can happen! Walking quite merrily along with some ladies earlier this year, we came across a farmyard and a splendid new barn (pictured) which had been built right across the footpath - so off I went in search of the next part of the footpath. As luck would have it, my nose took me to some bushes and “lo and behold” there was the rather overgrown continuation of the footpath beyond! I wonder if anyone else had found it! It had a tree fallen in the way, presenting a mild obstacle course, which encouraged good negotiation skills from the ladies! Each negotiated their way round the obstacle and off we walked down the valley to reach the sea beyond.
But, further along the route, the coast path was also a mystery! It didn’t seem to be there either! So we had fun climbing over the rocks on the beach. The cliff had collapsed from sea erosion so the rocks were there to prevent further loss of coastline - so that is where the path went!!! But we managed to return to the seaside town we had started from...
This is all part of the fun of walking in the country - you don’t always know what you will come across next! Challenges give opportunities to build confidence and when you are walking with people, you can work it out together, as a team.
